Dafram: PPE and consumables always available with SafeBox, the ICAM smart dispenser

Founded in 1956, DAFRAM S.p.A., was the first company in Italy to manufacture floating ball valves. Based in Urbisaglia (Macerata), the production plant is spread over an area of 32,000 square metres, 12,000 of which are under cover and include the sales offices, the technical and design offices and two highly advanced production areas, the last of which was completed in February 2008.  Within this 10-metre high area of 4,200 square metres, the production, assembly, testing, sandblasting and painting of ball valves of the largest size and weight can be carried out.

In 2020, to meet the growing volume of orders, it became necessary to introduce a third working shift, which would have required additional personnel for the distribution of PPE at the start of the night shift.

In addition, all of the tools and consumables needed for the set up of the machine tools were stored in small vending machines or fixed shelving, located throughout the plant which, as well as occupying a considerable amount of floor space, forced operators to manually search for and pick up materials.

In order to overcome these critical issues, the company opted to install SafeBox, the intelligent distributor from ICAM for the centralized storage and 24/7 selective self-service distribution of consumables and PPE. Standing 3.5 metres high and 8 metres wide, in just 20 m² it can handle more than 5,000 items.
