Automated histological archive for the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital

The IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital is a Scientific Research and Care Institute founded in 1971, a leader in rehabilitation and a reference point in research and healthcare in Italy.

In 1972  it was recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health as a research hospital for its expertise in research and care for diabetes. The recognition as an IRCCS was then extended to the entire field of molecular medicine in 2001.

The strategic role of histological samples in research paths and the growing volume to be managed have prompted the Laboratory of Pathological Anatomy of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital to look for a solution to make the manual processes of collection, conservation and classification more efficient, to guarantee the correct conservation of the biological material over the years and to speed up research operations and ensure traceability, by reducing the clinical risk resulting from a possible loss and/or incorrect management of the samples.

Thanks to the modular design and the integration of the bbTraccia® traceability software from the company Katalog, the IstoTech automatic archive has turned out to be the optimal solution to meet the needs of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital.

Configured with 3 storage columns and a picking and refilling station, in just 10.54 m² it makes possible to archive slides and blocks prepared in 5 years.
