THE LOGISTICS CHALLENGES

The pallets containing the iron components ready to be shipped to customers, used to be stored on a mezzanine floor that the company wanted to remove in order to make the production area more manageable.

As they were of different dimensions types, the pallets could not be stacked on top of each other, so they occupied a very large footprint in terms of floor space.

It was also necessary to use a forklift truck with side forks and a manual pallet truck to move them from the tooling machines, to the mezzanine and back again for delivery to the end customer.  This obviously resulted in negative repercussions on the goods handling process.

THE SOLUTION

To resolve these logistical problems, we installed a SILO2 multi-column automated storage system outside the RB Impianti factory, with an extractable access opening, accessible from inside the plant.

In this way the pallets can be moved straight from the machine tools to a storage position inside the SILO², therefore drastically reducing the number of handling operations and dead time for the warehouse operators.

The storage trays were designed and constructed with special side rails to hold and stabilize the pallets during handling operations inside the vertical storage system.
