The ability to organise items within each tray enables the available space in the storage system to be fully exploited, providing a high level of accuracy and reducing access times. The combination of a wide range of trays, both in terms of dimensions and load capacity, together with a good choice of accessories for internal division (side extensions, removable dividers and containers) allows the management of various types of items, even those with a very high specific weight (from 99.4 to 1,001 kg/m²). This provides maximum versatility in application and a load capacity that can be adapted to the actual loads. SILO² makes it possible to handle trays with fixed load heights (fixed configuration) or with variable height (automatic configuration).

Unprecedented operational continuity and flexibility

Each storage system can be equipped with a minimum of one and a maximum of eight access openings. The possibility to position multiple access openings, one next to another, helps to increase speed and efficiency in the storage and retrieval operations, because while the operator is involved in picking or storing operations in one access opening, the handling system continues with its next mission in the adjacent access opening, reducing or even eliminating waiting times for the operator.

Technology

The principle “goods to person”

The SILO² automated vertical warehouse operates according to the “goods to person” principle. Using a PC on board the machine or any other mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone with ICON, ICAM’s warehouse management software, operators send and control picking/refilling lists. They then receive the tray containing the requested material at the picking/refilling station, where they can perform the picking or refilling comfortably and safely.

Material handling is carried out with a lift equipped with an automatic gripping and releasing system, which moves vertically between two columns of opposing shelves where the trays containing the stored material are located.

To ensure the safety of the operator during tray handling in the picking/refilling station, there are multi-beam photoelectric barriers and an automatic closing panel. Additionally, emergency buttons are available on the front of the machine to immediately stop the movement if necessary.

The brains behind SILO² is ICON. This web-based software, designed and developed entirely by ICAM according to the latest technological standards, responds perfectly to all of the storage and picking needs of the major commercial and industrial sectors. This multilingual and multiple-storage system app offers greater flexibility of interface with the most popular WMS and ERP management software. Designed using the .NET 4.5 framework, ICON was developed in C#, with the development tools for Visual Studio. The PC works on Microsoft Windows 10 and is equipped with a network interface, a software package developed by ICAM and a database operating on SQL Server Express Edition.
