Alidaunia: air navigation, emergency medical helicopter services and maintenance, AgustaWestland Authorized Service Center

Based in Foggia, Alidaunia operates in high-responsibility fields: civil protection, emergency helicopter and air ambulance services, charter flights, daily scheduled flights to the Tremiti Islands, and helicopter maintenance. Since 2002, it has been an AgustaWestland Authorized Service Center, requiring high standards of precision, traceability and safety in spare parts management.
In this context, spare parts storage is not ordinary logistics: every component has a code, a value and often a certification. A late spare part means aircraft downtime. A missing one means interrupting an essential service.

The logistical challenges

The growing number of components managed, the presence of high-value equipment and the need to constantly monitor available stock made traditional storage systems no longer adequate for aerospace industry standards.

The main critical issues were:

  • Manual component search: the time spent finding a spare part on traditional racking was time taken away from maintenance operations, a direct and measurable cost.
  • No real-time stock visibility: the quantity and type of available components could not always be checked quickly, creating a risk of errors when planning maintenance activities.
  • High-value components not adequately protected: delicate and expensive equipment exposed to risks of damage, theft or deterioration without a controlled-access system.
  • Saturated indoor space: the need to optimize the space available inside the hangar for maintenance operations made it impossible to expand the traditional warehouse indoors.

Insulated outdoor SILO² with indoor-facing access opening

The SILO² Vertical Lift Module is installed outside the building, with an insulated structure that protects components and provides thermal insulation in all weather conditions.
The picking and refilling station faces indoors: operators access materials from inside the facility, protected from external agents. With a footprint of just 19.4 m², the automated vertical storage system provides 28.8 m³ of storage capacity.
The trays are configured with different usable heights to manage components of different types and sizes: small parts, equipment and larger components coexist in the same system with no compromise on space or accessibility.

ICON–ERP integration and batch traceability

Integration with the company ERP makes it possible to check the availability of every component at any time: quantity, type and location are displayed in just a few seconds on the control console PC. Every picking and refilling operation is tracked in real time, with full visibility over batches and stock levels.
For aeronautical spare parts, this level of traceability is not just operational efficiency: it is a requirement that follows every component from receipt through to use.

Key results

The right spare part, available instantly: every minute saved is an aircraft back in service faster.

  • 28.8 m³ in 19.4 m²

parts and equipment concentrated in a minimal footprint, without taking up valuable space in the hangar or maintenance areas.

  • The required spare part delivered to the picking station in seconds

with manual search across static racking eliminated, the requested part is available to the operator in a matter of seconds.

  • Real-time batch traceability

ERP integration with every component tracked, every movement recorded and stock instantly verifiable

  • Protected indoor access

the indoor-facing picking and refilling station allows operators to work protected from weather conditions, without interrupting the flow

  • High-value components kept safe

insulated structure with thermal protection, controlled access and optimal storage conditions throughout the entire storage period

  • Trays configured for aeronautical spare parts

different usable heights to manage small parts, equipment and larger components within the same storage system, with no compromise on space or accessibility

Implementing the SILO² Vertical Lift Module was not just an optimization, it was a real step forward. Time spent searching for a specific part is lost time, wasted time. It is an unnecessary cost. From an entrepreneur’s perspective, the gain has been enormous, because saving time means optimizing human resources and, of course, making operations safer.
