MAXIᵀ — The automated sheet metal storage system

MAXIᵀ – Automated Tower Storage System for Panels and Sheet Metal

MAXIᵀ is an automated vertical storage system for sheet metal, panels and flat materials. Up to 3,000 kg per drawer, up to 90% floor space reduction.

Multiple configurations, one principle: access to the material you need, without moving everything else.

MAXI T - Tower storage system for panels and sheet metal

More space for production. Less footprint for storage.

Panels, sheet metal and flat materials consume floor space out of all proportion to their productive value. Propped, stacked, moved aside every time you need the one at the back.
With MAXIT, a 100 m² sheet metal storage area becomes 10 m²: automated vertical storage in single or double tower configuration, direct drawer access via integrated lift, floor footprint reduction of up to 90%.
More space to produce. Less time lost moving materials in the wrong place.
The problem is not where you put the sheet metal.
It’s how many times you have to move it to find what you need.

Why MAXIT is the right choice for your sheet metal and panels

MAXIT is designed to integrate automated sheet metal storage into the most demanding production processes, where load capacity, configuration flexibility and operational continuity are not optional.

  • ROBUST

Load capacity up to 3,000 kg per drawer in single or double tower configuration. Handles steel sheet metal, composite panels and flat materials with high specific weight without structural oversizing.

  • EXPANDABLE

The structure grows in height via 500 mm incremental modules, up to 12 metres. The initial investment evolves with volumes without replacing the system.

  • CONFIGURABLE

In single tower configuration the loading rack is fixed; in double tower configuration it is motorized, moving the drawer between the front and rear towers to reach the load/unload station. Front, side or outdoor access, with opposing access points to serve two different departments simultaneously.

  • ERGONOMIC

The motorised drawer transfer system automatically positions the drawer at the load/unload station, eliminating manual handling of heavy and bulky loads. Compatible with overhead cranes and pneumatic manipulators.

  • CONNECTED

ICON tracks every movement by code, batch and order. For high-value materials such as certified sheet metal and structural panels for automotive or shipbuilding, knowing where every unit of load is located is not optional.

  • SAFE

Perimeter protection nets prevent operators from accessing the machine’s movement area during the automatic cycle. Photoelectric barriers and emergency buttons on the front complete the safety perimeter.

Icon

ICON, the intelligent mind behind MAXIᵀ

ICON is ICAM’s warehouse control software governing the entire operation of MAXIT: real-time monitoring of drawers and load/unload stations, automated loading and unloading missions, full traceability by material code, batch and production order, essential for certified sheet metal and structural panels where every unit must be traceable. Role-based user management, floor layout mapping for a unified company inventory view. Native WMS and ERP integration without custom development.

All the details of MAXIᵀ

How it works

MAXIT is available in single or opposing double tower configuration. The self-supporting steel structure is designed for both indoor and outdoor installations. Inside the towers, drawers slide on dedicated guide rails.

An automated lift manages drawer retrieval and horizontal transfer to the load/unload station. In single tower configuration, the loading rack is fixed: the drawer is directly accessible from the front. In double tower configuration, a motorized loading rack is required, it moves the drawer between the front and rear tower to deliver it to the optimal retrieval zone for forklifts, robots or servo-assisted systems.

The entire process is governed by ICON: from material selection to the calculation of the optimal mission sequence, from recording every operation to traceability by batch and order. Integration with WMS and ERP makes MAXIᵀ an active node in the production flow, not a passive storage unit at the side of the line.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Drawer request

The operator selects the material via the command console, integrated with WMS and ERP via ICON. The mission is dispatched with no manual search required.
  2. 02

    Step 2: Automatic drawer retrieval

The elevator identifies the correct drawer inside the tower and transfers it to the load/unload station.
  3. 03

Step 3: Transfer to load/unload station: fixed position or motorised drawer transfer system

With a fixed loading position the drawer is directly accessible. With the motorised drawer transfer system, it is automatically brought to the optimal position for retrieval by forklift or robot.
  4. 04

Step 4: Material picking or loading

The operator or automated system accesses the drawer safely. The ergonomic position and full visibility of the drawer contents facilitate every operation.
  5. 05

Step 5: Confirmation and full traceability

Every movement recorded in ICON: code, batch, quantity, operator. Real-time inventory available for reporting and integration with company systems.
  6. 06

Step 6: Drawer return and mission close

The drawer returns to its optimal position in the tower. ICON updates stock and archives the mission.

Technical Specifications

Structure and modularity

MAXIᵀ is built in self-supporting steel, available in single or double opposing tower configuration. The structure is designed for indoor and outdoor installations, in single, series or parallel configuration. Height expansion is achieved via 500 mm incremental modules without replacing the existing structure.

Drawer

Drawers are available in three useful internal dimensions. Fixed loading position in single tower configuration, motorised drawer transfer system in double tower configuration.

Storage system

System dimensions vary based on the chosen configuration. Height is configurable up to 12 metres via 500 mm incremental modules.

Configuration

Configuration

MAXIT can be configured based on the available space, material type and required level of automation.

Single tower

In the single tower configuration, the loading rack is fixed: the drawer is directly accessible from the front of the unit. A compact solution for environments with one accessible side, ideal for medium volumes and linear production flows.

Double opposing tower

The double tower structure has a motorised drawer transfer system: it moves the drawer between the front and rear towers to allow material picking and loading. Maximises capacity in the same vertical footprint and allows opposing load/unload stations to serve two different departments or production lines from the same system. The configuration of choice for high-volume sheet metal fabrication and multi-line operations.

Outdoor installation

When internal floor space is entirely dedicated to production, MAXIT installs outside the facility. The self-supporting steel structure is designed for outdoor installation, with indoor access via a dedicated opening.
Outdoor installation

In-line installation

Multiple MAXIT units connected in series to handle high volumes and a wide variety of part references. A single motorized loading rack connects all automated storage systems.

Optionals

Motorised drawer transfer system

In a double-tower configuration, the motorized shuttle is mandatory: it transfers the drawer between the front and rear towers to enable material picking and refilling.
In a single-tower configuration, it is available as an option for applications where MAXIT is integrated into automated flows with forklifts, robots or servo-assisted systems.
