Sirmec: the Stellantis parts hub for southern Italy

Founded in 2018 in Senise (PZ) by entrepreneurs with forty years of parts distribution experience, Sirmec entered immediately as a Distrigo hub for PSA. In 2022, following the PSA-FCA merger into Stellantis, it extended its distribution of original parts to all 9 group brands. Today the company stocks over 90,000 codes available at all times, delivers within 24 to 48 hours and operates two sites: Senise (PZ) and Cagliari (CA).

Range breadth, stock certainty and delivery speed are what Sirmec competes on. Guaranteeing all three on 90,000 codes makes manual warehouse management impossible.

The logistical challenges

The Stellantis integration brought a catalogue explosion: new brands, thousands of new references, wider territories and an 85% OEM-mandated service level.

Traditional racking on 1,200 m² could not deliver:

  • Manual searching with stepladders for upper shelves, long traversals and injury risk.
  • Frequent picking and refilling errors cutting directly into service levels.
  • Constant inventory checks to verify stock levels, no real-time visibility.
  • No reliable data for the B2B portal.
  • Three operators needed just to manage small and medium-sized parts.

6 SILO² in 3 pods of machines: each unit dedicated to a parts category

The 6 SILO² VLMs, each 8 meters high with 3 storage columns and 2 side-by-side IRIDE Picking stations, are installed in opposing pairs to form 3 pods of machines. Each pair is dedicated to a specific parts category: 2 SILO² systems for small parts such as fasteners and seals, 2 for fast-moving and filtration parts such as brake pads and discs, and 2 for boxed items with defined dimensions. All of this in 196 m², where 1,200 m² of racking used to stand.
A single operator manages the entire workflow from the workstations, compared to the three operators previously required for the same volume of work.

ICON, WMS, and B2B e-commerce: from goods receipt to real-time inventory updates

Upon arrival at the facility, each item is registered in Zucchetti’s WMS Vision system via barcode scanning. ICON receives the data, automatically assigns the optimal storage location in one of the 6 SILO² units, and updates the inventory levels on the B2B e-commerce portal in real time: customers can see actual availability even before placing an order.
Orders are received exclusively in electronic format via the B2B portal, automatically converted into picking lists, and transmitted to ICON. The operator calls up the list on the bay PC and receives the trays in sequence: IRIDE guides each pick, making any picking errors impossible.

Key results

Less space, fewer operators, faster service, and a B2B portal that updates itself.

  • –83% occupied floor space

From 1,200 m² to 196 m² for the same spare parts volume, in the same facility.

  • From 3 to 1 operator.

One person now handles the volume that required three.

  • Zero picking errors.

IRIDE guides every operation step by step.

  • Real-time B2B eCommerce.

Portal stock updates automatically with every ICON movement.

  • 85% OEM service level achieved and maintained.

    90,000 codes, 24–48h delivery.

  • Manual inventory eliminated.

Real-time traceability on every item: no periodic counts needed.

The main benefit we have gained from the SILO² warehouses is definitely the optimisation of floor space previously used for storing these materials. Beyond that, the SILO² systems have given us less need for manual inventory and therefore less time spent on that activity, a reduction in placement and picking errors, and the ability to redeploy our team members to higher-value tasks.
