SILO² vertical lift module for flexo printing sleeve storage — Carton Pack food packaging manufacturer

Carton Pack: food packaging expertise and international reach

Carton Pack specialises in packaging production for the food industry, with a strong presence in the fresh produce segment and an international customer base. Its production is defined by high variety, strict quality standards and continuous focus on internal process efficiency.

In this environment, printing sleeve management is an integral part of the production flow: the condition of each sleeve has a direct impact on the quality of the finished print.

The logistical challenges

Printing plates were stored on pallets at floor level, exposed to dust, impacts and deformation.

The result was a cluttered storage area, slower handling operations and an increased risk of print quality issues caused by plate deterioration.

This storage method created several operational challenges:

• risk of deformation of cylindrical printing plates
• difficult and time-consuming handling operations involving forklift trucks
• large footprint within the production area
• limited and inefficient access to stored materials

SILO² with custom-equipped trays for cylindrical printing plates

The SILO² VLM, standing more than 7 metres high and featuring 4 storage columns and a telescopic picking/refilling station, is specifically configured for the safe storage of cylindrical printing plates.
The trays are fitted with dedicated supports that prevent deformation and preserve the integrity of the printing plates over time: a non-standard configuration, engineered around Carton Pack’s production process. The VLM stores 900 printing plates in just 28.5 m², with a telescopic station that facilitates picking and refilling operations while reducing the need for forklifts.
The goods-to-person principle delivers materials directly to the operator, eliminating unnecessary travel and reducing the risk of damage during handling.

ERP integration: tool life traceability, planned maintenance and consistent print quality

ERP integration provides structured control over the life cycle of every printing plate. Every inbound and outbound movement is recorded, supporting planned maintenance and cleaning activities over time.
Traceability goes beyond logistics and becomes a key factor in maintaining high quality standards in flexographic printing, where plate integrity directly impacts final print quality.
