Optimising the spare parts warehouse, eliminating travel time to the workshop and increasing B2B sales across the authorised workshop network: ambitious goals achieved through the installation of a three-column ICAM SILO² system at the company’s Viterbo facility. The system features three picking/refilling stations on opposite sides to simultaneously serve both the spare parts centre and the mechanical workshop.

SILO²
–200 sqm footprint
+80% storage capacity
+10% B2B spare parts sales
3 picking/refilling stations: 2 in the spare parts centre with IRIDE, plus 1 opposite station in the mechanical workshop
At the Viterbo spare parts centre, SKUs were stored on traditional shelving systems occupying approximately 300 sqm, organised by spare part category.
Regie Auto wanted to turn its after-sales service into a structured B2B business, but with the existing organisation, it lacked the operational resources to do so.
The challenges were structural:
• manual search processes relying on operators’ memory to locate each SKU
• manual assembly of repair kits, leading to frequent errors and delays
• no traceability: continuous inventory checks, inaccurate purchasing, risk of stock shortages and overstocking
• mechanics had to interrupt repair activities to physically collect parts from the spare parts centre
• no possibility to dedicate resources to managing and developing the network of external workshops

Greater workshop efficiency, increased external sales, reduced footprint
From ~300 sqm of shelving to just 23 sqm with SILO²
Within the same footprint, with better organisation and accessibility
Thanks to the operator reassigned to the external workshop network within just a few months
Mechanics receive kits directly at the station without unnecessary travel
ICON-Drakkar: tracked movements, real-time inventory and optimised purchasing
Vehicle- and repair-based allocation combined with IRIDE eliminates mix-ups between similar spare parts
Thanks to SILO² Vertical Lift Module, all spare parts are now stored in one place, safely and in an organized way, instead of being scattered across different racking areas throughout the plant.
This system has allowed us to eliminate over 90% of the racking, recovering a significant amount of floor space.
Real-time monitoring of available stock protects us from potential stockouts or excess inventory, bringing numerous operational and economic benefits.
From 2 to 7 storage columns, over 120 tray size configurations and a specific load bearing capacity of up to 1,000 kg/m²: SILO² is ICAM’s solution for high-density automated storage of small and medium-sized items, including very heavy components.
